The Vice President should be an elected position every four years on the election cycle opposite of the Presidential Election. The VP's role in the Senate should be enshrined in the constitution.
The Secretary of State should be elected separately and designated with certain roles overseeing foreign relations, including tarriffs, treaties, and civilized disputes.
The Secretary of Defense should be elected and given stronger control over the military's non-wartime functions. The President shall remain the Commander in Chief and have authority over the military in war for a short period of time. That period of time should not exceed 30 days, the US Congress must approve any deployment of soldiers that exceeds that time frame.
The election of those officials should be split between the two cycles and also serve four year terms.
