Marriages should start with an equal distribution of assets.  It should be part of getting married to actually square away how much each person will own when the marriage is complete.  Then every year after that, the income between the two should be added together and divided by two.  Both parties are responsible to pay their half of the expense through the entire marriage.

This would make divorces much cleaner.

This would help equalize the gender pay gap.
